Air Products has opened a new, state-of-the-art specialty gases and helium (He) transfill facility in Ochang, South Korea. The Tier One corporation will produce ultra-high purity specialty gases from 99.995% and above at the new plant including rare gases and mixtures, as well as packaged He. Kyo-Yung Kim, President of Air Products Korea, stated, “Korea is an important market for Air Products, and we are excited about inaugurating this gas transfill in the North Chuncheong Province, which is a key region for our specialty gases and He business here.” “It represents another step in the strategy to further strengthen our local supply capabilities and distribution network across the country to drive sustainable growth.” Specialty gases produced at the site will be supplied in quantities ranging from 10 litres at 150 bar cylinders up to 50 litres at 200 bar high-pressure and large-volume cylinders. Strategically located at the centre of the North Pacific rim country, Ochang has been developed as an industrial complex for the high-tech industries. As such, Air Products’ facility will serve the growing automotive, electronics, analytical, bio-healthcare, petrochemical and refining industries in the region. Air Products are the leading industrial gas company in South Korea, occupying a market share of 27% in 2014. The US-based corporation is heavily investing in the region over the course of the next two years with three new plants – two oxygen (O2) and one nitrogen (N2) – set to come on-stream for glass and electronics manufacturers.
